On Friday, July 5, 2019, Julie G Collins, died at the age of 85. Julie was born in July, 1933 along with her twin sister Juliet. Together, the “Gerke Twins” started playing the piano publically when they were five years old and went on to become nationally famous as duo-piano artists. They studied music at Mills College and the Julliard School of Music, majoring in music at the University of Wisconsin.
Julie married Sherwood C Collins in 1957 and together they had two children. She continued to share her love of music in many ways: teaching piano lessons, serving as church organist in Winchester and Follen Church in Lexington, and performing recitals. Julie was proud of switching gears later in life to become a Paralegal at Hale and Dorr, working in blue-sky law.
Julie is survived by her children, Steven and Carolyn, her grandchildren, James and Julia, and her many ‘grand-cats’ she loved to care for.
A private family celebration of life will be held. Julie loved animals (especially cats); memorial donations may be made to a local animal shelter of choice, or to Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society in Salisbury, MA.
