Shawn Stickel was born on August 3, 1961, in Hawarden, Iowa. She was the 7th of 8 children. She graduated from West Sioux High School in 1979 and graduated with a BS from Briar Cliff College and later she graduated from the University of Denver with her Masters of Science. She was a scientist at New England Biolabs for the past 24 years.

She has two boys, Evrim and Aydin Demir who were her whole world.

She was politically active, traveled the world and was engaged in many volunteer organizations.

She was proceeded in death by her mother and father, Lyle and Melba Stickel, and her sister Dale. She is survived by her two brothers Kelly (Jan) Stickel, Rocky (Kathy) Stickel, Mary (Don) McCool, Deb (Gary) McKellips, Bridget (Mike) Miller, Shannon (Grant) Flynn, many nieces and nephews and her loving friend and partner Jim Carter. Her life was enhanced by her tribe of friends from New England Biolabs.

Shawn grew up in a small town in Iowa. She was raised in a loving home, the 7th of 8 children. She had a special bond with her five sisters. She was beautiful, a brilliant scientist, and above all else, so very kind. She had two sons who she loved above all else. She loved to laugh, cook, eat, travel and enjoyed her wine. Shawn has a tribe of friends who are just like family to her. Her compassion is evidenced by her gifts that will benefit so many people.

Her last act of compassion was her gift of organ donation.

Donations can be made to the family for the funding of her boys education. To:

So very saddened and still in shock. Such a wonderful gal full of life and treated all with much love. Rest In Peace my friend. Sending heartfelt sympathy to all who loved Shawn. We lost an angel.
Many people come and go in our lives only a few leave a lasting imprint. Shawn was one of those people in my life. We worked together at NEB and raised our children together. Shawn was kind and generous with her time and energy and she made me laugh. She encouraged me and supported me during a difficult time in my life. I will always remember her and the love she had for her boys, her family and her many friends. I extend my heartfelt sympathy to her boys, Evrim and Aydin, you were her heart, the entire Stickel/Demir family, her close NEB tribe and all the other NEB employees who had the pleasure of working with her. My heart is broken too. I feel your profound loss and I share your sorrow. And to her beloved, Jim, weve never met, but Im glad the two of you were blessed to have found each other. May God bless you and may you all find comfort and peace from the unique imprint Shawn has left within each of you. Love, Nancy Badger, North Carolina
