-------------------- Adam S. Curcuru, 44, of Gloucester died unexpectedly at his home on October 11. He was born on September 4, 1974. He attended Gloucester Public Schools and graduated from Gloucester High School in 1993. He served in the US Marine Corps reserves for 6 years and was based in Chicopee, MA.

Adam was ambitious at an early age, starting a paper route at age 10, then working as a bagger at Cape Ann Market where he dreamed of owning his own store. He worked at Christine's Variety for three years before purchasing it in 2004. He enjoyed socializing with, joking around with, and giving advice to all his customers. He often let children come behind the register and ring up their purchases. It is obvious through the many displays of love and mourning throughout the city, that Adam is already missed terribly.

Adam previously worked at Varian as a Mechanical Electrical Assembler for eight years and in September 2018 he received an HVAC/R certificate from the Peterson School in Woburn.

Adam was a proud father to his beautiful five-year-old daughter and he enjoyed teaching her about the world and making her laugh. Adam made a connection with everyone he met. He had a great sense of humor and was quick-witted. Adam enjoyed spirituality, exploring the psychic world, and working out at the MAC. He took guitar lessons for ten years and had a passion for home improvement.

Adam is survived by his daughter Maya and her mother Salina Curcuru, his father Anthony Curcuru and his wife Jean Curcuru, his mother Jessica Wunschel and her husband William Wunschel of Seabrook, NH, his brother Anthony Curcuru and his girlfriend Michelle Del Greco of Revere, MA, two stepbrothers William Wunschel, Jr. and Gregory Moses, Jr. and stepsister Stephanie Blanchard and her husband Joseph Blanchard of Paxton, MA, three nieces; Ashley Curcuru, Savanna Moses, and Adelina Blanchard, and four nephews; Anthony Curcuru, Tariq Moses, Nicholas Curcuru, and Jack Blanchard, his 14-year old cocker spaniel Mac, many cousins, aunts and uncles. He is predeceased by his grandparents, Joseph and Angela Curcuru, and Edward Ernest and Marjorie Perkins.

Adam was an inspiration to me and Iím sure to a lot of people in Gl. He certainly will be missed. My thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones. God bless, Iím gonna miss you buddy.
Anthony, It isn't a natural cycle of life for a parent to bury a child. I hope the pride that you feel from having him as your son, and the pride he felt for being your son, gives you comfort. Although my daily coffee routine changed when I started working out of town, he always welcomed me at the store as if I was there everyday. It was obvious he loved life, his work and of course, his daughter. My heart and prayers go out to you and the family. Riverdale has lost a beacon. There are very few as open and welcoming as Adam was. God bless. Judy McKinnon

I like many, considered Adam a good friend, confidant, and counselor. We worked together for years at Varian and although he left to start the store, I got to see him as much or even more. On nights when I could get out a little early from work and I didnít have anything pressing to run home to do , id text him and see if he was still at the store closing up. Most times he was, and sometimes theyíd be another friend/ customer in there keeping him company as his checked over things before closing up and heading home. Conversations ran the gamut, nothing was really sacred and he always listened. As anyone has bad days Iíd walk in and he could tell something was off, and by the time I left I had a smile on my face and a skip in my step. Most people want to go into a store and get the hell out as quick as possible. In his store is was rare not to find someone in there just talking up a storm with him. He was such a personable and friendly guy, you wanted to stay behind and talk with him even after you told your wife youíd be right back. If I told my wife I was running to Adams, she knew I was good for 30 minutes. I am sure there are many others out with the same story. Even my sons would come with me sometimes for a run to the store as they enjoyed hanging and talking with him too. We all loved him like family as the outpouring of emotion from the community shows. We all have great memories of him we will never forget. My deepest condolences to the entire Cucurru family, but my sincere thanks to you all for sharing your son, with the rest of us.
To my cousins Jessica and Anthony and to Salina and Maya,My condolences and prayers. Adam was great, many fond memories of him and Anthony and i playing at Aunt Marjorie's home when we were little . God Bless him in heaven you were loved and will be missed cousin Adam love you, so sorry it has been twenty years plus since we saw each other. rest with the Angels .love cousin Annette
Iím so glad I saw this post. For the past few years my family and I have been staying down the road from the store. I saw Adam every morning to buy smokes and a bag of ice for the beach. Each summer he would say I know you, how do u know you? I would remind him that I use to live in gloucester and now here for the summer. Finally, after 3 yrs. of him seeing me in the summer he asked where I live now, I told him Palm Springs,Ca. I learned this summer that heíd been to palm desert , Ca. which is down the street from me. He always greeted me and others with a warm smile and a friendly Hello!!! Iím going to miss seeing him next summer for sure!! Sincerely , Colleen Melton

Adam was a pleasure to know, I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He went to school with my brother and every time I stopped into the store we always talked about psychic abilities and the paranormal. He knew I was interested in it and had a group in town. He always had lots of questions, I remember he even told me a story about the store. I will always miss our conversations. Till we meet again Adam, RIP.

Adam, you and the store were part of my childhood. Sometimes it would be getting a popsicle with my mom and sister, or it would even be trick or treating. When I would go to school, I would stop at the store before and after I got on the bus. I remember Adam would always be there in the afternoon and he would always talk to me about school and ask how I was doing in school and out. When I turned 18, I bought my first scratch off ticket at his store as well. I will remember Adam as the nicest man, because he was always loved talking to the regulars who would come in; including myself. Rest In Peace Adam, Godspeed.
He always brought a smile to my face while stopping in at Christine's. So sorry for the loss of his family and especially his daughter.
My deepest sympathies to the family. I first got to know Adam many years ago when he was our paperboy on Western Ave. We crossed paths again when he bought the store close to my family's home. Letting the kids walk up to "the corner store" is a right of passage in our family, and Adam would always recognize them and engage them in conversation. He was truly a special person, and we will all miss his smiling face and kind spirit.

I was so saddened when I heard of Adam's passing, and I am still in shock. He was a wonderful person and always so polite. When ever I entered the store we always made each other laugh and always asked about the family. Adam you will be missed so much my friend. Sending prayers out to his family and friends. May you fly with the Angels. Debbie Legendre
Anthony and family, so very sorry for the loss of your son, Adam. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
To the cucuru family, i will never forget the first time that i went to the convince store when i moved into riverdale. Ill never forget how kindhearted Adam was to me and my grandbaby. He was so nice to her and to me carrying on a 45 min conversation with me even though he didnt know me.. I have missed my 45 min conversation with him as i moved down to louisiana back in March of this year and the last conversation we had was Adam telling me to be careful driving down there by yourself. I will miss him greatly i may have lost a friend here but i gained an angel to watch over me.. Rest in peace Adam you will be greatly missed by all you have come in counter with. Lisa Gagnon.
My husband Ben and I got to know Adam years ago before he bought the store. He was friends with our oldest granddaughter's father, who asked Adam to be his daughter's god father. We got to know Adam more through the years at his store. Adam would always go out of his way to ask how our family was doing, and joke with us to make us laugh. He was such a caring young man. It's no wonder he will be missed by so many people. Prayers to Adam and his loved ones. We will miss him and think of him often, with a smile.
Adam was the unofficial mayor of Gloucester. Everyone who stopped by Christine's was welcomed, and they knew it. His passing has sent shockwaves all over, including here, in the Rockies. A long time ago, Adam suggested reading Dr. Raymond Moody's work. Bettie Eadie. Dannion Brinkley. I did. I'll see ya again, Adam. I'll bring you the newspaper from home.

I am so sorry to Adams family. He was such an amazing person. I grew up with him working at Christineís, or as I foundly called it, the corner store. Every time I saw him in there he would greet me with a smile and ask how things were going, how my family was doing. He even special ordered something to have in the store for me once. I was and am so greatful to have known him. He will be so very deeply missed. Rest In Peace Adam.
