Martin A. Walsh, of Brooksby Village, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rita S. Walsh, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. The son of Coleman and Sarah (Riley) Walsh, Marty was born in Portland, Maine on February 25, 1921 and raised in South Boston. He graduated from South Boston High School and Northeastern University. He was employed by General Electric for 42 years until his retirement in 1982. Prior to GE, he spent a year with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCCs) working on municipal projects throughout the state. Before moving to Brooksby Village in 2005, Marty was a resident of Danvers for 45 years. It was here that he and Rita raised their family. He is survived by his son, Timothy M. Walsh and his wife, Theresa of Lynnfield and his daughter Barbara Walsh DiMambro and her husband Robert of Beverly. Perhaps the greatest joy of his life were his four grandsons, Tyler and Patrick Walsh, and Cpl Kyle (USMC) and Justin O’Connor. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Marty is survived by a sister, Mary Ward of Norwood and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Rita, he was predeceased by his brothers Alfred, Coleman (Fred), Thomas and John as well as a sister Kathleen Prior. Visiting hours will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at the Mackey Funeral Home 128 S. Main Street, Middleton. Marty’s funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 18, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel at Brooksby Village, 300 Brooksby Village Drive, Peabody. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marty’s name to the Brooksby Village Resident Care Fund, 200 Brooksby Village Drive, Peabody, MA 01960.


Hi Walsh Family, My Dad Ron Walsh just showed me a picture of Coleman Walsh and Martin looked just like him!!! What a nice long life. I wish you all the same. With love and prayers. Susan ( Walsh) Galvin
