Cynthia Rose Matthews, 64, of Danvers, died Tuesday evening, in Kaplan Family Hospice House, surrounded by family, after a long battle with COPD.
Cynthia was born in Mount Clemens, Mich., on July 11, 1951 and raised in Peabody. She was the daughter of Anebal Paulino and the late Rosalie (Raymond) Paulino and the stepdaughter of Maria Paulino, all of whom were from Peabody.
After graduating Peabody High school in 1968, Cindy married her high school sweetheart and attended the Essex Agricultural Nursing Program which began her long career as a well-loved and respected nurse. Cindy was a strong-willed and independent woman, wife and mother who enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Barry L. Matthews; her two children, Melissa Matthews of Andover, Ryan Matthews of Danvers and one grandchild, Nick Matthews of Danvers. Also she is survived by her father Anebal Paulino and his wife, Maria of Peabody, her sister, Wendy Drolet and her husband, Paul, also of Peabody; and her brother, Scott Paulino of Derry, N.H.
Cindy was preceded in death by her eldest brother, Mark Paulino of Peabody.

|I was saddened to read of the passing of my nursing school classmate, Cindy. We were good friends while going to Essex Aggie and spent many hours studying together. Sadly, as many of us do, we lost track of eachother after graduation. Knowing how smart and kind-hearted she was, I am sure she became a wonderful nurse.
