Obituary:

We are heartbroken in announcing the passing of Laurie Beth [Condon] Hodges on December 6, 2015. She passed while surrounded by family and loved ones after a courageous 4 year battle with cancer. Loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and teacher. She spent her life serving others and always putting others needs ahead of hers even as she faced a long uphill battle fighting her cancer in order to make lasting memories with her family. Laurie was born and raised in Georgetown, MA where she excelled on the athletic field and in the classroom. She went on to continue excelling in the classroom at Gordon College in Wenham, MA and as a two-sport athlete in soccer and basketball. Gordon is where she would meet her future husband Ben. Laurie was a passionate, energetic and empathetic middle school math teacher at Doherty Middle School in Andover where she retired in 2013 to focus on her treatment and family. Laurie spent many summers vacationing with family and friends on the Cape, including frequent visits to Nantucket where she loved playing on the beach and swimming in the ocean. Laurie’s greatest gifts were her children whom she loved more than words could ever describe. Laurie Hodges is survived by her devoted husband of 15 years, Ben Hodges, her three beautiful children Bryce (8), Brynn (6) and Brylee (3), her loving parents Paulette and John Condon, her brother Jim Condon and sister-in-law Sabrina Condon, her sister Leslie Condon, her grandmother Lorraine Roy McCarthy and countless other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dear Mr and Mrs Condon, Jim, Leslie, & all others including Ben & her kids, My name is Noel Vanier...Laurie was one of my very first childhood friends. We got the chickenpox together, rode bikes to and from Penn Brook Elementary & Calaways gas station to fill up on candy, and even picked out a name together that we could call my baby sister before she was even born. We spent countless hours on the soccer field and b-ball court as our little sisters' would play together on the sidelines and under the bleachers. She had the left hand and foot no-one else had. She had a quiet & fun sense of humor. I could actually sit here and write pages of moments and memories we shared. It is of no surprise that she grew into being a beloved mother of 3, faithful wife, and woman of strong and empathetic character. I love you Laurie!!!!! Noel Vanier
Mr. And Mrs. Condon, Words cannot possibly express how deeply sorry I am for your loss. She was an AMAZING person and I will never forget her. I cannot make it home until the first week of January, however, I am coming home to say goodbye. May God Bless you and your family. Sending my love. Brandie Weston.
I worked with Laurie for many years before I retired in 2008, and subbed for her in 2009 when she was on maternity leave. She was always in my prayers. She will always be with you in spirit. Bless all of you.

Hello, Mrs. Hodges was my seventh grade math teacher. She was always smiling and her personality was so radiant. She taught me a lot. I have a learning disability and I thought that I couldn't do math. Mrs. Hodges never gave up on me. She made me feel that I had the ability to achieve anything. She was so amazing and there is nothing but great and beautiful things to say about her. I am so sorry for your loss but Heaven as only gained another beautiful angel. May her soul rest in peace. Cancer did not win, she won her courageous fight by leaving behind a wonder legacy. I'm a college student now at Northern Essex Community College and I had the opportunity in finishing my math class early because of how advanced I was. I have her to thank because seventh grade was not easy, but she made it easy and fun to learn. I will miss her dearly. Like she used to say in graphing, "Y to the sky". Now she's flying high. Rest in peace Mrs. Hodges. Sincerely, Makayla Banton Class of 2010 Doherty Middle School :)

Dear Ben and Hodges Family, I read Makayla Banton's post about Laurie and she captured the essence of Laurie beautifully and perfectly. Makayla is so spot on when she says that cancer did not win, but that Laurie won her courageous fight by leaving behind a wonderful legacy. Laurie loved her students like they were her own children. Laurie is a gift to the teaching world and the students who were blessed enough to be in her classes. one of whom was my son, loved her as much as she loved them. My son came to my class every afternoon bursting with Mrs. Hodges stories. I cannot tell you the number of times that he told me how Mrs. Hodges was the best math teacher and how she was his favorite. Then he'd catch himself and say, that I was his favorite teacher too - of course, I knew Laurie truly was his favorite, but I appreciated his kindness. I know you will hear thousands of stories like Makayla's and John's because your Laurie was so incredibly talented and special, but most of all she was genuine in her affection for her students, her colleagues, her friends, and most of all her family, her husband and her childrenI feel so fortunate and honored to call Laurie my friend. My sincerest condolences. Love and peace, Audrey Moreland
