Janice M. Kappotis, 63, of Bedford, MA passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 after a long illness. Born in Salem, MA in 1952, she was the daughter of Alma (Theriault) Pretanik and John Pretanik. Janice was passionate about travel and history. Her early employment with American Airlines gave her the opportunity to explore the Caribbean, Central America, and the Hawaiian Islands but she found her true home as an Historical Interpreter at the House of Seven Gables. Janice took particular joy in her family, especially her children and grandchildren, and delighted in spending time with them. Her favorite local expeditions included beach days and foliage drives. She is survived by: her father, John Pretanik; her significant other, John McCarthy; her siblings, Stephen Pretanik (wife Diane), Alma Steele (husband Ralph), Anne Shanahan (husband James), and Yvette Pitcairn (husband David); her children, Stephen Kappotis, Melissa Griffin and her husband Kerr, and Jennifer Mancini and her husband Daniel; and her three beloved grandchildren, Daniel, Jack, and Victoria. Janice also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, Janice’s family requests that donations be made to The Janice Marie Kappotis Memorial Scholarship Fund, 8 Cressy Street, Beverly, MA, 01915.

Hi, Janice was a beloved friend and coworker who always had time to listen and always wanted to make sure everyone around her was ok.I will miss the conversations that we used to have about our lives and family. Janice was so positive and believed in everyone and strived to be the best she could be. I was lucky to have her in my life the past 12 years. I worked with Janice at The Gables for less than a year. She was my boss but she was also a friend. I love Janice and I will miss her deeply. When I return to Massachusetts and visit The Gables, there will be a sadness and an emptiness of a missing loved one that I will share with my other Gables friends Deb, Cathy, Betsy, Scott, Julie, Jess and everyone else. She is at peace now in God's hands. Rest in His peace beloved friend. We'll see you on the other side. Love, Jeff Cook
I worked with Janice at The Gables for eight years. She was one of the nicest co-workers I ever had in a lot of years of working and she also became a dear friend. So many nights our little group would meet for dinner at the Witches Brew across from the Gables and the talks and the laughs that we had will be with me forever. Janice was so kind and helpful to everyone; her co-workers and the many, many guests who were fortunate to have her as their first impression of the Gables when they entered the lobby. So professional, knowledgeable, and always that kind smile. My heart is broken over this and I cannot even imagine the Gables without Janice. I feel so blessed to have met her, happy that our friendship continued after working together and will always carry her in my heart. Love, Heidi Webb
Janice was a smart beautiful bright light at The Gables. May her wisdom, knowledge and love shine on all who loved her and may treasured memories lighten the sadness in the hearts of her family and loved ones. She was a treasure. So sorry for your loss. Clare White-Sullivan

I'm so sorry for your loss. I worked with Janice at The Gables for a few years. I was always excited when I got to work the desk with Janice, because it felt like spending a day with family. Janice was always sweet, caring, and always looking out for all of us. The Gables will never be the same. I'm happy that my time in Massachusetts included Janice in it. I will always treasure our time @ The Gables. Love, Johanna (Jo) Umana
